Terms of Service

Last updated: March 30, 2026

1. Service Description

TaxProtestAustin provides property tax protest services for Travis County, Texas homeowners. We analyze your property's assessed value, prepare evidence supporting a reduction, file a protest with the Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD) on your behalf, and represent you at informal and formal hearings.

2. Agent Authorization

By signing up and completing the authorization form, you appoint TaxProtestAustin as your agent for the purpose of protesting your 2026 property tax assessment with TCAD. This authorization is governed by Section 1.111 of the Texas Property Tax Code and corresponds to TCAD Form 50-162 (Appointment of Agent).

You may revoke this authorization at any time by contacting us. If you revoke after we have filed your protest, you are still responsible for any fees owed on savings achieved prior to revocation.

3. Fee Structure

Our fee is 20% of your actual first-year tax savings, calculated as follows:

  • Tax savings = Reduction in your actual tax bill (not just assessed value), accounting for all active exemptions
  • Our fee = Tax savings × 20%
  • If your final tax bill is not reduced, you owe nothing ($0).
  • There is no minimum fee.

We adjust your initial assessment and tax rate to reflect all discounts associated with your active exemption(s) — homestead, over-65, disabled veteran, and others. You will never be charged for a reduction in assessed value if your final tax bill is not reduced.

The fee is a one-time charge based on the first year of savings only. We do not automatically re-enroll you for subsequent tax years or charge fees on reductions caused by market conditions rather than our protest.

4. Payment Terms

Payment is due within 30 days of receiving your final TCAD determination confirming a reduced assessment. We will email you an invoice with a secure payment link. Payment is processed through Stripe. We accept credit cards and ACH bank transfers.

5. Settlement Offers

If TCAD offers a settlement, we will notify you with our recommendation to accept or reject. You make the final decision on all settlement offers. If you reject a settlement offer and proceed to a formal hearing that results in a lower or no reduction, our fee is based on the final outcome, not the rejected offer.

6. No Guarantee of Results

While we use advanced AI analysis and professional evidence preparation, we cannot guarantee a specific outcome. Property tax protest results depend on TCAD's appraisal methodology, available evidence, and hearing officer discretion. Our contingency fee structure means we are incentivized to achieve the best possible result for you.

7. Limitation of Liability

TaxProtestAustin's liability is limited to the fees you have paid us. We are not responsible for TCAD's assessment decisions, changes in tax rates, or any consequential damages arising from the protest process.

8. Cancellation

You may cancel your appeal at any time before TCAD issues a final determination. If we have already filed your protest, we will withdraw it upon your request. No fee is owed if you cancel before a reduction is achieved.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. Any disputes will be resolved in Travis County, Texas.
